Poker Pretzels

I have a recipe for you that is cheap frugal and a phenomenal hit with the right audience.  I made them the first time for Christopher’s poker game and they were a smashing success with the guys who named the recipe “Poker Pretzels.”  If cooking the day of a holiday party is way too tiring for you, make these a day or two beforehand.  Even if you’re not signed up to bring anything to holiday parties, spend $3.00, add these to the appetizer table and enjoy the compliments.  But maybe put a little note labeling them as spicy!

1 packet Old El Paso hot & spicy taco seasoning mix

1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil

1 medium sized bag of mini pretzels (12 oz- 16oz works well)

A healthy dash of each of these (or some of these) (or some other spicy flavors you like): Worchestire, Siracha, Habenaria, red pepper flakes

While your oven is preheating to 250′, mix everything except the pretzels in a very large bowl.  Once the sauce is mixed, add the pretzels and stir well with a long wooden spoon.  Spread the wet & seasoned pretzels out on a large cookie sheet with edges.  Try not to overlap pretzels as much you can.  Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring the pretzels every 10 minutes.  Let the cookie sheet of pretzels cool for many hours – you don’t want contain the pretzels too early because they get mushy.  Serve room temperature.  They keep well in an airtight bag or container for at least a week.
